The 2025 Caribbean Sports Calendar
Your ultimate guide to 50+ events shaping the region and fueling sports tourism
Whatsup Squad,
The Caribbean hosts over 50 world-class sporting events annually, but most sports fans and tourists miss out because there’s no easy way to discover them.
Until now.
I’m thrilled to introduce the most comprehensive Caribbean Sports Calendar ever—your ultimate guide to sports tourism in the region.
What’s Included?
With events across 14 countries, the calendar features:
Event name
Sport
Date(s) of competition
Location
Website
As much attention goes to the region’s most popular sports, the calendar highlights the diversity of the Caribbean sports ecosystem, with events spanning soccer, basketball, cricket, track and field, horse racing, regattas, running, cycling, and golf.
Some events haven’t announced their dates yet, so I’ve set placeholders based on last year’s. I’ll keep updating the calendar as new details are released.

Why This Matters
I spent the past year searching for and reporting on sporting events around the Caribbean, documenting their cultural and economic impact in the process.
As more people followed my work, I began to receive questions like, “when is the best time to visit?” or “what are the major sporting events happening this month?”
I felt there was a need to gather all that acquired knowledge and present it in a way that is concise and beneficial to fellow sports fans, others of the Caribbean diaspora, and the Caribbean-curious, so they too can make the most of their time in the region.
That’s why this isn’t just a calendar—it’s a game-changer for sports tourism.
The sports tourism market has grown rapidly in recent years, and it is projected to grow to over $893 billion by 2028.
While the industry is currently dominated by Europe and North America, there is an untapped opportunity in the Caribbean — the most tourism-dependent region in the world.
Especially outside of peak season, Caribbean economies can benefit from the increased spending on accommodations, transportation, food, and beverage.
The sports calendar not only allows tourists to discover events, but it also makes it easier for them plan vacations around their favorite spectator sports and active travel experiences.
Individual countries and tourism departments often advertise a calendar of events, but a regional sports calendar encourages much-needed collaboration across national borders.
January Highlights
Bahamas Bowl
The Bahamas Bowl, the longest-running international bowl game in college football history, returns to Nassau for its eighth edition on Saturday, January 4th.
The Buffalo Bulls will take on the Liberty Flames at Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium while The Atlantis Bahamas will house both teams at its world-class resort and water park on Paradise Island.
“Hosting the Bahamas Bowl underscores our position as a premier destination for world-class sporting events…this event showcases The Bahamas’ stunning beauty and exceptional hospitality to a global audience, leaving lasting impressions both on and off the field.”
- Latia Duncombe, Director General of the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism
The Bahamas Bowl forms part of the country’s broader Sports in Paradise initiative, which aims to position the nation as the premier destination for sports tourism.
The annual event helps bring even greater international attention to the islands.
Bahamians of all ages come out to the National Stadium to experience game day the way it happens in American college stadiums each week during the season.
Barbados Sailing Week
Later this month, Barbados takes center stage with a 10-day regatta.
From coastal sailing competitions to kitesurfing displays, the schedule offers something for everyone.
The vibe throughout the island is legendary with crowds flocking to the best vantage points to watch the race as it unfolds down the rugged Atlantic coast.
The famous Mount Gay Round Barbados Race is a 60-mile yacht race around the island.
It notably features a 20-mile stretch up the West Coast, past the homes of the very rich and famous passing Holetown and Speightstown.
Final Thoughts
While this calendar was built for the Caribbean, it offers a framework for emerging markets to promote their sports ecosystem.
As I have done for the Caribbean, there should also be a calendar for major sporting events across Africa and the Middle East.
And if you have an event you’d like to be added to the Caribbean calendar, feel free to reach out!
Until next time ✌🏾
The calendar currently exists exclusively on the BACKCOURT website, but I’m excited to provide digital downloads for all paying subscribers.
